Abstract

I sistemi di Intelligenza Artificiale Generativa (GenAI) stanno trovando un impiego sempre più diffuso in tutti i settori industriali e contesti di ricerca. Sviluppatori e utenti finali interagiscono con questi sistemi attraverso l'uso del prompting o dell'ingegneria dei prompt. Sebbene il prompting sia un concetto ampiamente studiato e utilizzato, esistono terminologie contrastanti e una comprensione ontologica limitata di ciò che costituisce un prompt, a causa della relativa novità di questo campo. Questo articolo stabilisce una comprensione strutturata dei prompt, attraverso l'assemblaggio di una tassonomia delle tecniche di prompting e l'analisi del loro utilizzo. Presentiamo un vocabolario completo di 33 termini, una tassonomia di 58 tecniche di prompting basate esclusivamente su testo e 40 tecniche per altre modalità. Inoltre, forniamo una meta-analisi dell'intera letteratura sul prompting con prefissi in linguaggio naturale.

Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) systems are being increasingly deployed across all parts of industry and research settings. Developers and end users interact with these systems through the use of prompting or prompt engineering. While prompting is a widespread and highly researched concept, there exists conflicting terminology and a poor ontological understanding of what constitutes a prompt due to the area's nascency. This paper establishes a structured understanding of prompts, by assembling a taxonomy of prompting techniques and analyzing their use. We present a comprehensive vocabulary of 33 vocabulary terms, a taxonomy of 58 text-only prompting techniques, and 40 techniques for other modalities. We further present a meta-analysis of the entire literature on natural language prefix-prompting.
